The Monroe County Crime Lab tour was definitely a cool tour as to how crimes get processed. We toured the building, remaining in the hallways, looking through the windows, our tour guides gave great descriptions of what takes place in each area and the degree of detail associated with it. TV makes the forensics look glorious and easy to do but the reality is attention to detail, clear & concise notes/records for evidence management and gowning up not contaminating the samples. The Lab reviews such things as vehicle examination, firearms and Tool marks, drug chemistry analysis and forensic biology/DNA. Hopefully next time we can perform finding fingerprints to understand the process. All in all, a great tour of an industry we see so much on the TV but don’t really understand how it works. Dinner for the evening was held at the dinosaur BBQ.
