RED Rochester Lake Water Treatment Facility Tour

On May 22, 2024, the Rochester Plant Engineers toured the RED Rochester Lake Water Treatment Facility located at 541 Edgemere Drive. This old and large facility is very unique due to the use of old equipment, still functioning, (some on an as needed basis), and the mix of new equipment handling the needed loads flawlessly. 54 million gallons of water per day, nominal capacity with backup from public water systems, flow through the plant. We learned about the lake water intakes and temperatures at that depth and the maintenance needed. We were able to see the intake screens and learned that every once in a while, a random fish might be swimming in there but finds its way back to the big waters. There was various large pumps and piping, one section with an early 1900’s date stamped on it, very impressive to have that equipment still functioning today. All in all, it was a great tour with a piece of Rochester history, which I would love to write about but……..If you joined us on the tour, you would have learned it all. Our tour guides gave us a great tour and we rounded out the evening with dinner at Hose 22.
