DESCRIPTION:This tour is sold out!\nJoin us on the Music Performance Tour at RIT. This tour will be during the construction phase so please bring hard hats and safety glasses. \n \nSetting the Stage for Performing Arts \nWith thousands of RIT students involved in performing arts expected in the next few years\, plans are moving forward for a performing arts complex that will feature a 750-seat theater to be completed in 2026. The project is intended to provide more venues for the RIT community as well as options for community groups to hold concerts\, talks\, and other events. The music performance theater will be more than 40\,000 square feet\, three stories tall and have truck access. It will include two balconies and feature a historic\, restored theater pipe organ. \nThe complex will be built in two phases. \nJames Yarrington\, RIT’s university architect and director of Planning and Design Services\, said construction of the first phase—tentatively called the “music performance facility”—is expected to begin in the summer of 2023\, with completion expected in 2025. It will be more than 40\,000 square feet\, three-stories tall and have truck access. The theater is expected to have two balconies and feature a historical restored theater pipe organ. \nIt will also have costume and scene shops as well as offices. Yarrington said the Rochester area has numerous theaters that can seat a couple hundred audience members\, but there are few options for venues that seat between 700 and 1\,500 people. By comparison\, the Robert F. Panara Theatre in Lyndon Baines Johnson Hall has 440 seats. \nThe first phase is expected to cost more than $35 million\, which is part of RIT’s approved capital bond project. DESCRIPTION:Genesee Brewing Company is an American brewery located along the Genesee River in Rochester\, New York. From 2000 to 2009\, the company was known as the High Falls Brewing Company. In 2009\, High Falls was acquired by the capital investment firm KPS Capital. Together with newly acquired Labatt USA\, KPS merged the two companies as North American Breweries. Along with this change\, High Falls Brewery changed its name back to the original “Genesee Brewing Company” operating under the North American Breweries name. SUMMARY:March 21\, 2024 RIT Student Hall for Exploration & Development Tour (The Shed) MEP Design
DESCRIPTION:Project Highlights\nThe SHED (Student Hall for Exploration and Development) will be a place where the makers\, doers\, and thinkers of RIT come together to explore through experiential learning and develop their dreams and ideas into reality.\nThis project includes a 130\,000 SF new building and 86\,000 SF of renovations to the campus library building. The building contains a wide variety of spaces\, uses and needs ranging from a performance theater\, CNC shop\, dance hall\, 3D printing\, music studio\, sensitive archival storage\, maker spaces\, classrooms and support spaces. Clear glass is used extensively for visibility of multiple spaces from all location. \n\nDesigning the wide range of required systems for this creative complex was an exciting challenge and included the following:\nA 225\,000 cfm smoke control system was required for the atrium space and a CFD model was used to reduce the air volume from the code baseline.\nAn energy recovery chiller extracts waste heat from the campus chilled water system to be used to heat the building.\nA 450kW natural gas generator is used to provide emergency power for life safety\, fire pump\, and smoke control loads.\nLighting design includes a 0.45W/sf power density and is highly controllable.\nTight temperature and humidity control for the archival storage spaces was required.\nPerformance spaces have support systems to provide low sound criteria to NC20.\nPlumbing systems include a fire pump and piped compressed air and natural gas.\n\nDinner: At Jeremiah’s on Jefferson Rd. \nParking: Please park in in lot U after 5 pm. DESCRIPTION:The ALL-ELECTRIC BUILDINGS LAW: What it means for you \n\nThe Assembly Majority is doing its part to protect New Yorkers and all communities from the harms of climate change. Most recently\, within the state budget\, we passed an all-electric buildings law. This is a forward-thinking addition to our state’s commitment to a greener future.\nClimate change has an impact on us all\, from rising sea levels to an increase in the severity and frequency of extreme weather events to the exacerbated air pollution. Some of New York’s largest industries\, including agriculture\, commercial shipping\, forestry\, tourism and fishing are already being detrimentally affected. Climate change also strains the physical infrastructure that delivers critical services to the citizens of New York\, including the state’s energy\, transportation\, stormwater and wastewater infrastructure.\n\n  \nWhat the new all-electric buildings plan does \n\nStarting in 2026\, most new construction of buildings in New York that are seven stories or shorter must be built to use electric heat and appliances. This will also apply to larger commercial buildings with 100\,000 square feet or more of conditioned floor area (bigger businesses).\nTaller residential buildings and smaller commercial buildings will be rolled into the program in 2029.\n\n  \nFacts and Myths \n\nThe loudest voices New Yorkers hear talking about climate change aren’t always the most truthful ones – passing this law was an uphill battle against misinformation\, and we continue to fight that misinformation.\nSome have straight up lied about the all-electric buildings law\, attempting to manipulate New Yorkers for their own political advantage.
